Cantium Scientific Limited

A major part in any system or product design project is the adherence to any relevant legislation or standards.

The key legislation that applies to all our services are as follows..

EMC : Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 89/336/EEC

Once of the most onerous items of compliance legislation.  All electronic products and systems placed on sale or for use within the EU must comply with this.  It deals with the limit to how much electromagnetic radiated and conducted interference a device may produce, and how it must be able to tolerate a level of interference.

Cantium Scientific Limited design all systems to encompass best practice to ensure compliance.  All products are required to be tested to prove compliance or to demonstrate compliance by means of a technical construction file.  We have the facilities to do basic in house pre-compliancy checks prior to submission to UCAS accredited testing facility.  We will work with our customers to ensure full product compliance.

Other similar laws existing in other countries, such as the FCC in the US, and we will work with our customers and test houses to gain approval for all markets.  The UK DTI website provides an excellent starting point to find out more information.

Cantium Scientific has an in-house procedure to cover EMC testing — QP-003 — that all products are subjected to.

LVD : EC Directive 73/23/EEC - (The Low Voltage Directive - LVD)

This legislation is designed to ensure that all products are electrically safe.  It is mostly common sense but the standards associated contain very important  product testing methods and design guidance.

Cantium Scientific has an in-house procedure to cover LVD compliance — QP-002 — that all products are subjected to.

The UK DTI website provides an excellent starting point to find out more information.

Machinery Directive - 98/37/EC

This is an important machine safety requirement.  It requires that all machinery is safe from both the mechanical, protective, and controls point of view.

All machine control systems we design and build encompass the requirements of this directive.

For further detailed information, the best place to start for independent advice is the UK DTI web site.
